Swimmer... Sailor... Brave Brown Bag Designer/Maker
It all started with water for Charlotte. First growing up on the Great Lakes (Erie) meant a natural inclination to swimming ; then when choosing which art school to attend after highschool, the proximity to the ocean was the key critera for choosing the Nova Scotia College of Art. Indeed, Charlotte's very first bag company was called Thalassa - Ancient Greek for ocean.
For Charlotte, sailing is a great design teacher about utility and beauty. With an educational background in Fine Art and Classics and a passion for sailing, much inspiration has grown from her interest in the materials used in both traditional and modern sailmaking. Charlotte believes in the integrity of a design that grows out of the roots of time and place - like a wine's "appellation controlee". The classic paper ancestor was transformed by substituting traditional waxed cotton and the skills of sailmaking... one thing led to another... an uncompromising design aesthetic, balanced with a sense of humour...and voila the first Brave Brown Bag was created.
